![]() Weird salad of nuts, dried fruit, and cheese. The food and presentation was atrocious to say the least. Taxi was quick and we took off behind a Vueling A320 going to CDG and a Ryanair 737. Some blankets and pillows also not loaded, which impacted the rear Polaris cabin more. Push back was 10 minutes behind schedule due to catering issues, which meant half the Polaris cabin didn't get the new "AWAY" amenity kits, which are cute, but bulky and awkward, size-wise. The flight attendants were actually nice and welcoming and the pilot made several detailed announcements and thanked everyone twice for flying the Friendly Skies. The Polaris cabin looked sort of sleek, but plenty of wear and tear visible. The cabin was warm, and the 777 was starting to show its age. Greeted at the door by a cheerful UA crew, crossed the galley and settled into my seat, 5L (great choice for solo travelers, which has more privacy and a bit more secluded from the aisle). Boarding was called on time, and it was chaotic, with novice flyers charging the turnstiles and not respecting Group # and boarding protocols were not enforced. I exited the lounge and found peace and quiet in the gate area with amazing apron views and better AC. The space was poorly ventilated, with limited food choices, and crowded with numerous flyers headed out on multiple flights to the US. The check-in lobby was extremely crowded and chaotic, but I quickly learned it was for Delta, not United, so once I found the Premier Access desk at the far end of the T3 check in lobby, I was through security and passport control, and into the mega mall that is the first section of FCO and onto the tram and to the E gates.Īs I was flying Polaris, I was invited to use a generic, windowless lounge adjacent to the former Casa Alitalia. My 777 was in bound from EWR running 2 minutes late, which is an extraordinary achievement given the mess that Newark is. ![]() I generally avoid UA and EWR but the low mileage and fees made this an opportunity too good to pass up.Īrrived at FCO about 3 hours before my scheduled departure. United Airlines added a second flight between Newark and Rome for Summer 2022 and I was able to book FCO-EWR in Polaris for 45K miles and $36 in fees the day the extra service was opened for bookings.
